The Society's Publications

Australian Plants journal

The Society's main publication is the journal "Australian Plants" which is issued 4 times per year. It was first published in 1959 under the editorship of the late Bill Payne, who remained as editor for over 40 years. "Australian Plants" attempts to strike a balance between articles of practical interest to the average grower and scientific research papers.

Australian Plants - Cover

The journal has built up a high reputation since its first issue in 1959 and is held in many libraries both in Australia and overseas. It's authors include the foremost experts in research into the horticulture and botany of Australian native plants as well as experienced amateur growers. "Australian Plants" is illustrated with numerous colour photographs and line drawings. It's topics cover a wide range and include landscaping, growing, botany, propagation and conservation.

The contents of the most recent issues are available here.

"Australian Plants" is a 48 page publication in A5 format and is included with Society membership (either as a standard benefit or by means of an additional fee). Membership brings many other benefits including hearing expert speakers at local group meetings, the Regional Society's periodical, the local group's newsletter, opportunities to attend events and meet like minded people.

It is also possible to subscribe to "Australian Plants" independent of Society membership. The cost is $20.00 annually ($AUS32 overseas), including postage.

To subscribe, print out the Subscription Form and post or fax the appropriate fee to the address indicated on the form.

Australian Plants online

Complementing "Australian Plants" is the Society's online magazine called (appropriately enough!) "Australian Plants online"....APOL for short. This internet publication has feature and short articles, book reviews, back issues, etc). APOL was first published in March 1996 and the current update can be viewed here.

Please note that the content of the "Australian Plants" journal and "Australian Plants online" is completely different.

Newsletters

The various Regional, District and Study Groups also issue regular newsletters which advise members of coming events as well as publishing articles and letters contributed by members.

Books

The Society is also active in book publishing. Over the years, the Society's Regional and District Groups have produced hundreds of publications ranging from simple brochures and pamphlets aimed at specific local areas to full commercial titles.
